Youth Leadership Superior ~ Douglas County

“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future”.
Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882 – 1945)

What It Is All About
Youth Leadership Superior ~ Douglas County offers something no other area program can. It gives area high school juniors and seniors a chance to enhance their knowledge and develop leadership skills that will empower and motivate them to become involved and committed to their community.

2008-2009
Due to the large quantity of students that applied for the Youth Leadership Program throughout Superior and Douglas County the Education Committee has expanded the Program. We are running two programs simultaneously each month. The sessions, attendance and Criteria for applicants to participate in the program will remain the same. The group will meet once a month for eight consecutive months, and in May of each year are required to attend the Excellence In Education Banquet.

How the Program Works
Participants attend a opening day retreat and eight one-day sessions over a nine-month period.

  • Sessions
The eight one-day sessions are held on the second Wednesdays of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Each session offers a hands-on experience and a unique opportunity to interact with community leaders. In addition, students will be exposed to different career opportunities.

Attendance
Participants are required to attend all program days. Attendance will be taken and reported back to the high schools. The Superior, Northwestern, Solon Springs and Maranatha Superintendents have approved all program session days as excused school absences.
