Youth Leadership Superior ~ Douglas County
“We cannot always build the future for
our youth, but we can build our youth for the future”.
Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882 – 1945)
What It Is All
About
Youth Leadership Superior ~ Douglas County offers something
no other area program can. It gives area high school juniors and
seniors a chance to enhance their knowledge and develop
leadership skills that will empower and motivate them to become
involved and committed to their community.
2008-2009
Due to the large quantity of students that applied for the Youth
Leadership Program throughout Superior and Douglas County the
Education Committee has expanded the Program. We are running
two programs simultaneously each month. The sessions, attendance
and Criteria for applicants to participate in the program will
remain the same. The group will meet once a month for eight consecutive months, and in May of each year are required to attend the Excellence In Education Banquet.
How the Program
Works
Participants attend a opening day retreat and eight one-day
sessions over a nine-month period.
Attendance
Participants are required to attend all program days. Attendance
will be taken and reported back to the high schools. The
Superior, Northwestern, Solon Springs and Maranatha Superintendents have
approved all program session days as excused school absences.

Selection Criteria
Applicants must be current sophomores who will be entering their
junior year of high school in the following September. Potential
participants are asked to complete an application as well as
provide both a teacher and community reference. In addition, in
order to be considered for the program, all students must have
their principal’s approval and be in good standing in their
respected high school. In the selection process we hope to
interview each applicant for the 2008-2009 Youth Leadership
Program. Applications are due to the Chamber
office by 5 PM March 15th.
The Selection
Committee will select a diverse group of participants for the
program based on the application and references.
Participants for
the class will be notified of acceptance in early May.
Participants will be expected to attend the Excellence in
Education Awards program as well as an orientation session which
will be held in May.
