    Job Description
    JMR Financial Group is a local company that provides tax, accounting and investment services to businesses and community members in the Duluth/Superior area. In our efforts to better serve our customers, we are looking for a detailed, focused & self-driven individual to join our growing tax team. This position will allow you to work with high net worth and diverse individuals and businesses. If you are interested in helping clients reduce their tax liabilities as well as developing a more thorough understanding of the tax laws, then this position is for you. Opportunities for advancement exist for the right candidate. The Staff Accountant’s primary responsibilities include tax preparation, year-end accounting, and tax support functions. This position may also perform other duties relating to the operations of JMR Financial Group as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Prepares individual, business, and fiduciary tax returns • Communicates with clients regarding tax return preparation and completion • Organizes, scans, and files client documents • Manages tax workflow to ensure returns are prepared in a timely manner • Gathers tax law and tax software research • Compiles tax returns and assembles tax packages for distribution to clients • Schedules client meetings • Reviews and understands financial records • Updates depreciation schedules as needed • Assists with year-end accounting for business tax returns • Assists the Tax Manager and other departments with projects as needed • Assists with year-end tax planning • Responds to taxing authority notices • Performs other related duties as assigned Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following. • Analytical - Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data; designs workflows and procedures. • Problem Solving - Develops alternative solutions. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. Previous experience preparing tax returns and general ledger work is required. Language Ability: Read, analyze and interpret business, professional, technical or governmental documents. Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the public. Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, etc.), and knowledge of Intuit Tax Online software. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Preferred: Certified Public Accountant or Enrolled Agent Supervisory Responsibilities: Minimal supervisory responsibilities for seasonal tax interns.
