The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Center for Continuing Education announces the return of the “Transforming the Human Spirit” exhibit to campus from Monday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Oct. 4, on the first floor of Swenson Hall. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
An opening reception will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at noon. Refreshments will be served and docents will take attendees on guided tours of the display. UW-Superior interim provost Maria Stalzer Wyant Cuzzo will provide opening remarks.
Through vivid imagery and words, the exhibit conveys the power of individuals to change society, from one of conflict and divisiveness to one of peace. It explores the root causes of violence and the importance of individual actions that can foster a culture of peace on a personal, local and global level.
“It is our hope that viewers of the exhibit will learn how they can diffuse challenging situations by taking action using consensus and dialogue, rather than the ‘hard power’ of violence,” said Cuzzo. “That is the first step that each of us can take to become a catalyst for peace.”
The exhibit was created by Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a Buddhist community with formal ties to the United Nations that seeks to raise awareness and education toward the realization of sustainable development, human rights and peace.
Swenson Hall is located at 1610 Weeks Ave. in Superior. Event link: https://www.uwsuper.edu/calendar/transforming-the-human-spirit-exhibit_calendar337167789
