The University of Wisconsin-Superior has named Cassie Brown as its new Coordinator for Inclusion for Multicultural Programs and T Leeper as its new Coordinator for Gender and Sexuality Programs. Both will be members of UW-Superior’s Department of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Brown earned a Bachelor of Science degree in outdoor education and Native American studies from Northland College in Ashland and previously served as its Interim Director of the Indigenous Cultures Center.

“We are excited to have Cassie as a team member within the EDI department, as well as the Division of Student Affairs,” said Jerel Benton, Director of the Department of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Senior Diversity Officer at UW-Superior.

At UW-Superior, Brown is looking forward to teaching cultural respect and discovering creative ways to help students succeed in educational settings.

“I’m excited to fully immerse myself into such a diverse community that is so vibrant and full of life,” said Brown. “The idea of working with students in a way that tells their story and that allows them to remain vital parts of their cultures and identities, while educating others is the most exciting to me.”

Leeper graduated from the University of Iowa with Bachelor of Arts degrees in communication studies and psychology, and received a Master of Education in student affairs administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

“This is an exciting time in the history of our campus,” said Benton. “T will be the first permanent professional staff member in our Gender Equity Resource Center. We are excited to have T as a team member within the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Department, as well as the Division of Student Affairs.”

Leeper’s primary work experience is in LGBTQ+ services, diversity and inclusion, and fraternity and sorority life, with some previous experiences also in leadership programming and orientation services.

“I’m most excited to come to UW-Superior for the campus and community of the area,” said Leeper. “Everyone has told me numerous times how beautiful the area is and how close people become.”
