Outstanding students and tutors in the University of Wisconsin-Superior Student Support Services programs were honored recently at the university’s annual TRIO Awards Day.

“On behalf of all TRIO, we would like to congratulate all TRIO award recipients,” said Angie Hugdahl, TRIO Grant Manager and Program Director of Upward Bound.

TRIO programs at UW-Superior provide qualified students with the necessary assistance to achieve their educational goals. They include Upward Bound, which helps high school students prepare for college; Student Support Services, which provides tutoring and assistance to qualifying students; and the McNair Scholars program, which prepares first-generation college students and students from under-represented groups for graduate study.

Upward Bound recognized Kaylea Holt as student of the year, and Morgan Johnson as the Tutor/Mentor of the year. Michael Jacobson was named as the $1,400 Gulland scholarship recipient, which will be applied to his 2018-19 term at UW-Superior.

Student Support Service recognized Michael Moretto for the 2018 UW-Superior TRIO Achiever award for Outstanding Academic Support Center Tutor, Kristen Kelly for Outstanding Academic Support Center Student, Myriah Schilling for Outstanding Math Lab Tutor, Matt Short for Outstanding Math Lab Student, and Victoria Hull for Outstanding Student Involvement Leader.

McNair Scholars Program recognized Reggie Semanko as Outstanding McNair Scholar of the Year. Semanko, who was mentored by Dr. Maria Cuzzo, will be attending Northern Illinois University in the fall. D’Andre Robinson was also recognized at TRIO Day as the McNair Researcher of the Year. Robinson, mentored by Dr. Meg Krausch, will likely attend UMD in the fall for his master’s degree.

UW-Superior’s Technology Services was awarded the 2018 UW-Superior TRIO Achiever award for outstanding faculty, staff, or area.
