UW-Superior to hold free 125th Anniversary Community Celebration
Throughout the academic year, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has been celebrating its 125th anniversary. The biggest, and perhaps best, has been saved for June. The 125th anniversary celebration will conclude with a Community Celebration on Tuesday, June 11, beginning at 5 p.m.
This event will include a free BBQ on the Yellowjacket Union Plaza, a sidewalk chalk art festival featuring alumni artists, games for children and family, a campus scavenger hunt, and tours of campus. The evening will culminate with a free outdoor concert from Big Top Chautauqua at 7 p.m.
“Celebrating the end of the commemoration of our 125th Anniversary year with a campus-wide celebration and concert means that community is important to us,” said UW-Superior Chancellor Renée Wachter. “I hope that people bring their families and children and enjoy a day of celebration, food, fun, and connecting together.”
Sponsored by UW-Superior Foundation, Superior Water, Light & Power, UW-Superior Alumni Association, Charter NEX Films, Inc., Campbell Lumber and Supply Co., Field & Connolly Insurance, and Superior Choice Credit Union, the 125th Anniversary Community Celebration will be a fitting conclusion for UW-Superior’s historic milestone.
“The university’s mission is to be a good steward of place, to be responsive to the needs of our community and businesses, and to be a good partner,” said Wachter. “We are grateful for the support that we receive from the foundation and our businesses that enables this mission to be fulfilled. We look forward to the next 125 years as partners in supporting a strong and vibrant City of Superior and northern Wisconsin.”
