The University of Wisconsin-Superior Visual Arts Department will host visiting artist Shannon Cousino for an exhibit in the Project Gallery located in the Holden Fine Arts Center.
“The emotional act of creating an artwork is further emphasized through the physical act of working in woodcut,” said Cousino. “Spilling my guts on paper, redrawing it on the surface of the wood, carving into the spaces between my drawn lines … the visceral act of adding and taking away mimics the feelings of loss and release I’m illustrating. Only when the ink is rolled onto the wood is the image reborn again, to be run though the press, coming alive at long last, as the paper is lifted off the surface.”
The exhibition will be open for viewing weekdays October 20 through November 23. An opening celebration will take place Thursday, October 28, at 5:30 p.m. with a Gallery Talk on Tuesday, November 2 at noon. All events are free and open to the public.
The Project Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For additional information, contact Anne Dugan at (218) 310-4703 or
