UW-Superior Transportation and Logistics students to benefit from Duluth Superior Transportation Ass
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Foundation received a $5,500 contribution from the Duluth-Superior Transportation Association (DSTA) to be added to an endowed scholarship fund previously established by the DSTA for students in UW-Superior’s transportation and logistics (T&L) management major. This latest contribution brings the DSTA’s total scholarship fund contributions to $20,000.
“Since the inception of the transportation and logistics management program at UW-Superior over two decades ago, the Duluth-Superior Transportation Association’s leaders and members have consistently supported the success and growth of the program,” said Richard Stewart, T&L professor, DSTA member and former president. “The endowed DSTA scholarship at UW-Superior is but one facet of the mutually beneficial relationship between the organization and the academic program. Other aspects include T&L faculty serving as directors on the board of the DSTA, students and university employees volunteering in the annual DSTA food drive, and multiple networking opportunities resulting in local companies hiring program graduates. Thank you to everyone in the DSTA who contributed toward this scholarship fund for T&L students needing financial support.”
The endowment fund provides an annual scholarship to a qualified candidate who is enrolled in the T&L major and is an active member of the T&L student club. Through continued funding, more students will benefit in the future.
The T&L program is the only one of its type in the upper Midwest, preparing graduates for careers in the rapidly growing transportation and logistics industry. The supply chain management undergraduate concentration is the most recent program addition. It joins and complements the T&L major with students learning the business of coordinating people, products, and materials. Currently, there are 85 students enrolled in the T&L major and 23 in supply chain management.
“With the baby boomer generation retiring in masses, there is a lot of competition in replacing those employees in all industries,” said Gina Schneider, past president of the DSTA. “We want to make sure students are educated and filling the needs of the transportation industry. We hope to encourage students to enroll in UW-Superior’s T&L program and ease the financial burden to do so. We plan to keep growing the DSTA Scholarship Fund and help many more students to come.”
