The Upward Bound program at the University of Wisconsin-Superior has recently been refunded with a $1.28 million grant for the next five years.

The Upward Bound program at UW-Superior serves 56 high school students from the Superior School District who are low-income or first-generation college students who have a desire to attend postsecondary education.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the UW-Superior campus, community and Superior School District to collaborate on exceeding the goals set forth in our new grant,” said Angie Hugdahl, Director, Upward Bound Program at UW-Superior.

The goal of Upward Bound is to help students succeed in high school, enroll, attend, and graduate from the college of their choice. Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Upward Bound has been serving students in Superior since 1999.

In January, six local high school student members of the Upward Bound program experienced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., for the presidential inauguration of Donald J. Trump. These students from the Superior School District were selected to attend the inauguration from a competitive internal essay application process.
