Welcome to our new Secretary's Director for Northern Wisconsin
We are pleased to announce that James Yach has been selected as the Secretary's Director (SD) for Northern Wisconsin. James comes to the DNR from the Department of Workforce Development, where he served as the North Central District Director of Job Services. Prior to joining state government, Jim was an IT consultant with Marshfield Clinic Information Services and proudly served and retired from the United States Navy as a naval aviator.
A Wisconsin native, James was born and raised in Stevens Point and is a graduate in business administration from the University of San Diego. He currently resides in Tomahawk with his wife Shelain, and two of their three sons attend high school there while the third is attending UW-Stout studying computer science. James is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys all outdoor activities and spending time at the family lakefront property in Presque Isle, though his great passion is musky fishing.
As the Secretary's Director for Northern Wisconsin, James will serve as the Secretary's Office representative for the North. He will be responsible for building strong relationships with our external partners including local and county government officials, conservation partners, friends groups, federal partners, the forest industry, business and economic leaders, and the tribes. James will begin his role as SD on July 10, over the next month he will begin a tour of the North with John G as he learns the agency, his role and a few tricks of the trade from John.
