WITC- Superior joins UW-Superior, CASDA and other community partners in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). SAAM is celebrating its 17th anniversary with the theme “Embrace Your Voice” to teach and inform Individuals to use their words to promote safety, respect, and equality to stop sexual violence before it happens.

The public is invited to attend “Speak Out Superior” on Thursday, April 26th, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at the WITC Conference Center, 600 N. 21st St. Superior, WI 54880. The theme “Embrace Your Voice” will be embodied through survivor artwork, a “What Were You Wearing?” display, an Ojibwe red jingle dress dance, survivor speakers and an Open Mic at the end of the event. WITC’s Early Education Educator program students will provide activities and childcare for families in attendance. Therapy animals from Lake Superior Paws for Love and CASDA advocates will be on site for support.

How you talk about sexual violence matters. Embrace your voice to show support for survivors, stand up to victim blaming, shut down rape jokes, correct harmful misconceptions, promote everyday consent, and practice healthy communications with children. One month isn’t enough to solve the serious and widespread issue of sexual violence. However, the attention April generates is an opportunity to energize and expand prevention efforts throughout the year.
