    Interested in becoming a beekeeper? The Beekeeping 101 Workshop is a FREE, three-hour workshop, open to the general public on how to become a beekeeper. Taught by UWS’s apiary manager Dr. Edward Burkett, this workshop will provide you with the general knowledge that all beginning beekeepers need to succeed. Topics covered will include “Do I really want to raise honey bees?”, “What is a honey bee?”, the history of beekeeping, basic equipment, tools, protective gear, cost, purchasing bees and equipment, legal issues, setting up an apiary, and installing your first bees. In this workshop you will learn to use beekeeping equipment and we will actually assemble a beehive from the bottom up. This workshop is a MUST for anyone considering beekeeping. The Beekeeping 101 Workshop has seating for 60 adult participants and is FREE and open to the general public. Registration is required and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
