Name: Disability Mentoring Day National Launch & Career Fair
    Date: October 13, 2009
    Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM CDT
    Event Description:
Disability Mentoring Day is a national career fair featuring national speakers and national employer exhibits. The event will welcome an estimated 1,000 students with disabilities, job seekers with disabilities, as well as national and local employers.

On Disability Mentoring Day, students with disabilities (mentees) are matched with workplace mentors according to expressed career interests. Mentees experience a typical day on the job and learn how to prepare to enter the world of work. Employers gain an increased awareness that people with disabilities represent an overlooked talent pool. Disability Mentoring Day is a program of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD).

Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) began in 1999 as a White House initiative to increase the national profile of Disability Employment Awareness Month. What began as a one-day job shadowing activity for 11 students with disabilities in the White House under the Clinton Administration has now grown into an international program. offering career exploration, mentoring and job shadowing to students and job seekers with all forms of disabilities. Today, Disability Mentoring Day supports more than 20,000 students and job seekers with disabilities each year with programming in all 50 US states, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and in 23 countries world-wide.
