Name: FREE Film Screening of "Paper Tigers"
    Date: April 25, 2017
    Time: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM CDT
    Event Description:
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Center for Continuing Education will host a free screening of “Paper Tigers,” on Tuesday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in Swenson Hall. The screening is open to the public. Preregistration is encouraged but not required. Following the film, there will be a Q-and-A session with Tracy Henegar, Associate Outreach Specialist for UW-Superior’s Center for Continuing Education. The documentary film, directed by James Redford and produced by Karen Pritzker, follows a year in the life of an alternative high school in Walla Walla, Wash., that has radically changed its approach to disciplining its students and, in the process, has become a promising model for how to break the cycles of poverty, violence and disease that affect families Paper Tigers intimately examines the inspiring promise of Trauma-Informed Communities – a movement that is showing great promise in healing youth struggling with the dark legacy of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Following six students over the course of a school year, we see school staff try a new approach to discipline: one based on understanding and treatment rather than judgment and suspension. To preregister visit cvent.com/d/05q1d9. Walk-ins are welcome. For more information on “Paper Tigers” and to view the trailer, visit PaperTigersMovie.com.
