Bong Veterans Historical Center and the University of Wisconsin-Superior Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center (VNSC) Welcomes John Owen Lally (Class of ’68), Vietnam War Veteran & Author
Superior, WI – The Richard I. Bong Veteran Historical Center and UW-Superior Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center invite the general public to a lecture on Saturday, March 29 given by Vietnam Veteran, Author and UW-Superior Alumnus – John Lally. He will read from his recent book After Action Report Poems of the Vietnam War and speak about how his poetry helped him make it through the Vietnam War, and is helping other soldiers now.
John was an infantry squad leader and platoon sergeant in the famed 101st Airborne Division in the last years of the war in Vietnam. His poems, written often in foxholes and on bunker lines, trace a year-long tour of duty to chronicle the fear, hope, pride, guilt, and frustration of a combat soldier, and the issues of dealing with the experiences of the war after separation from service. All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to support the programs of the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association, a nonprofit veteran’s organization which strongly supports active duty soldiers.
The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center honors the memory of Major Bong and all the veterans of WWII and later conflicts whose sacrifices maintain our Freedoms. The Center is an educational resource that collects and preserves the tangible legacy of these veterans and their home front supporters. In addition, the Center perpetuates their ideals, principles, and leadership skills for today as well as future generations. http://www.bvhcenter.org/
