Dexter is an awesome 10-year-old boy who has a great sense of humor and is full of life and love. His favorite things are super heroes, playing games, and hanging out with his friends and family.
In October of 2014, Dexter was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a very rare form of cancer that effects the nerve cells, bone, and bone marrow. His treatment was very aggressive and consisted of 7 rounds of chemotherapy, a six hour surgery to remove a large tumor in his abdomen, 12 sessions of radiation therapy, I-V radiation therapy, bone marrow transplant, and 6 months of antibody therapy. As of April 1st, 2016, Dexter was diagnosed with no evidence of disease.
One year later, almost to the day, scans showed that the Neuroblastoma had returned. With the return of this type of cancer the doctors caring for Dexter have very limited options for what can be done to treat it. Now that it has returned, there is no cure. At a recent appointment, Dexter’s doctor said, “There’s really no saying how long Dex has left. Maybe a year, two years would be amazing.”
This fundraiser has been set up to help ensure Dexter and his family can afford and create memories during the remainder of Dexter’s life. Any donation, no matter the amount, is always helpful.
