The day's activities begin with coffee and conversation at 7:30 AM, just before the 8:00 AM birding hike led by Steve LaValley of the Wisconsin DNR. At 10:00 AM, Steve will present the program "All About Birds" at the Bird Sanctuary clubhouse.
At 10:30 AM, the celebration moves to the St. Croix Lake Boat Landing, 4 miles northeast of Solon Springs on County Highway A. A dedication ceremony will be held for a new section of boardwalk in the Brule Spillway State Natural Area. The new boardwalk will complete the route of the North Country Trail across the headwaters of the Brule and St. Croix Rivers. The dedication will recognize members of the Cox family of Michigan who made memorial contributions to fund the trail construction.
A picnic lunch (donation) will begin at 11:30 AM. Following lunch at 1:00 PM, hike up to 7 miles along the North Country National Scenic Trail through the unique ecosystem of the Douglas County Wildlife Area. There will be two shorter distance options available with free shuttle back to the start.
