    Name: Pippin
    Date: July 9, 2014 - July 26, 2014
    Event Description:
Can't afford a ticket to New York to see the magical, mystical, high-flying musical Pippin that scooped up ten Tony nominations and won the Tony for Best Musical Revival this past year? Lundeen Productions is bringing this thrilling show to Duluth this summer for 12 performances, July 9-26, 2014.

The same team of Lundeen Productions and director Sheryl Jensen, who brought the area the blockbuster summer shows Cabaret, Side Show, and Jekyll and Hyde, are ready to blow the roof off the Harbor City International Theater with this year's extravaganza Pippin. Written by composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz of Wicked and Godspell fame onstage and Pocahantas, Prince of Egypt, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Enchanted on film, Pippin features some of Schwartz's best show music.

The musical, using a ragtag troupe of medieval players, presents a fairy-tale version of the time of the reign of King Charlemagne and his son Pippin. Folk rock songs, with a 1970s vibe, tell the story of a young man on a quest for his place in the universe. Pippin is about magic and truth, all told in the kaleidoscopic midst of stripes, flowers, sparkle, feathers, sequins, bangles, and glitz.

Ken Ahlberg, the show's music director, will also be playing the role Charlemagne. Jennifer Madill Hagen, a national dance judge and co-owner of the Madill Performing Arts Center, is the choreographer. Sasha Howell, from CSS, is the show's costume designer.

The 18-member cast features some of the most talented singers and dancers from the area, including Matthew Wagner, a professional dancer and teacher, who is playing the role of the Leading Player and is the show's dance captain.

Pippin will feature a live band and special pre-show surprises. Pippin is back on Broadway for the first time since it thrilled audiences 40 years ago. See it in Duluth to find out what current Broadway audiences are raving about!
