“Sold” will be the Word of the Day at the Second Annual Tech for Tikes Auction
By Nate Schilling, Four Corners First Grade Teacher/ Instructional Technology Coach
History sometimes repeats itself. Last year at this time, auctioneer Danny O’Sullivan was in the Four Corners gymnasium pounding his mallet and shouting “sold!” In a few short weeks, he’ll be back. O’Sullivan won’t just be doing it for fun, he will be doing it to benefit the students of Four Corners School through the Second Annual Four Corners Tech for Tikes Auction.
The goal of the Tech for Tikes Auction is to raise funds to put technology into the hands of the students at Four Corners, giving them access to the tools and skills they will eventually need in the workplace. It is exciting for the teachers too, because they can teach and help their students learn with the most current technology and applications to increase student learning. “Using current technology is so important,” said Stefanie Smetak, a fourth grade teacher at Four Corners. “Being able to use the tools of today’s workplace in school is a huge advantage for our students.”
Last year, the school’s technology committee thought that a community auction would be the perfect way to bring people together and raise funds for the school. In addition to bringing the community together, it would offer people wanting to help the school an alternative to a financial donation. Instead, they could support by donating items they already had. As a result of last year’s auction and the generosity of local businesses and the community, Four Corners was able to purchase technology for two classrooms that has directly impacted student exposure to technology.
The final auction bill of sale is not yet set, but the Auction Committee is working hard to collect donated items to auction off, everything from antiques, farm equipment, tools and cars and trucks, to good furniture, curious or rare goods, or services that can be auctioned. There is still a large need for auction items; anything of value is welcome, and many good items have already been collected. If you have an item to donate, please contact 715-399-8911. Pick up of items is an option.
To attend the Second Annual Four Corners Tech for Tikes Auction, head over to Four Corners School at 4465 E. County Road B on Saturday, May 17th. Viewing and registration for the auction is from 3-4 p.m., and the auction starts at 4. It is certain that attendees will be SOLD on this great opportunity to help the students at Four Corners school.
