    DTA Looking for Members of Accessibility Advisory Committee


    Thursday, August 26, 2021, The Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) is looking for community members to join it’s Accessibility Advisory Committee.  Its purpose is to provide the DTA with recommendations on the DTA’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), facilitate the dialogue between the DTA and the disability community, advocate on behalf of the disability community and the use of the DTA’s services by those with disabilities.  The Committee has space for up to 11 members, which are chosen from qualified applicants by the DTA Transit Committee, based on their ability to represent a cross section of the community of people with disabilities in the Duluth/Superior metropolitan area.

    The responsibilities of the Committee include:
    1. Providing advice, recommendations to improve accessibility, and identify accessibility needs and issues to new and existing programs, services, and facilities as it relates to Title II of the ADA.
    2. Representing the diverse needs and interests of the diversity of people with disabilities.
    3. Considering any issue brought before it by riders or the public that directly relates to issues of accessibility or the ADA on fixed route and paratransit services
    4. Providing comment on DTA’s current and planned services, policies and practices 
    5. Fielding any protests brought to it concerning eligibility and removal from service. 

    Currently, open positions include districts 5, 4, 3, 2, and a city of Superior At Large role (see map below for the geographic areas applicable to each district).  Interested individuals can visit Better Accessibility - Duluth Transit Authority to learn more about the program.  An application for the Committee is available on the page.
