Memorial Blood Centers (MBC) has declared a blood emergency as the region’s blood supply has dropped to less than a two-day inventory, far below the ideal seven-day supply needed to meet hospital and patient needs.

Summer has brought an expected decline in donations, driven by vacations, school breaks, and intense heat waves that have kept donors indoors. Combined with increased trauma cases, the impact on the local blood supply has been severe. While all blood types are urgently needed, the shortage is especially severe for types O negative and O-positive, which are vital for emergency situations and trauma care.

We need donors immediately, and we’re asking for your Chamber’s help to spread the word about this critical need to those in your sphere of influence, your organization, constituents, social media audiences, and peers. Here are a few ways you can help:

    · Spread the word on social media. Your chamber’s social media accounts reach people that ours don’t. Consider sharing our urgent call for donors across your social media networks. We can provide ready-made graphics and captions, or you’re welcome to share our emergency posts directly.
    · Email your chamber’s members. Share this message via email with other businesses in your chamber. We’re happy to provide talking points or scripting if helpful.
    · Feature us on your website or Chamber newsletter. In addition to your social media platforms, consider featuring our blood emergency on your Chamber’s website or internal communications channels to help reach your audience with this urgent message.

At this link, you will find our press release with additional details. Donors can visit mbc.org or call 1-888-GIVE-BLD to make an appointment at a donation location nearest them.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission to provide lifesaving blood to patients in need.
