Harbor House Crisis Shelters 1st Annual 'Making A Difference' Virtual Race!
We are announcing our ‘First Annual Virtual 5K Race’. This event will begin on Sunday July 19th, 2020 and will end on Saturday July 25th, 2020. This race is different as it will entail the racers to do this event not only virtually but race as they wish!
Harbor House Crisis Shelters is continuing to provide almost 20 years of services with emergency shelter, transitional living and permanent housing, with resources and services to homeless women, children and families since 2001. On average 512 people per year are helped with such services as safe housing, clothing, and access to food shelves. The organization also provides Case Management and Life Skills for both adults and children with resources to help further prevent homelessness.
As we are still dealing with Covid-19 and Social Distancing, instead of having an event where people sign up, support Harbor House, and then run together on a specific day, a virtual 5K takes all of these elements and either puts them online or – for the actually 5K – separates it out so that you’re not physically with other people (even though you’ll be with hundreds of others supporting Harbor House).
Here’s how it will work:
- First, sign up for the 5K! You can do so by contacting the Harbor House Crisis Shelters main office at 715-394-9608 ext. 1004 or sending a message to our Facebook page: @harborhousecrisisshelters .The cost is $10 per adult, $5 ages 11-18 and $2 age 10 and under. Our event page is: https://www.facebook.com/events/272943083827654/
- Once you’re all signed up and paid for, then comes the fun part! You or your group come up with a race plan and then complete it between July 19 and July 25, 2020. That’s right! You have a whole week to do the race!
- THE BEST PART – you don’t have to run to complete the 5K! You can swim, walk, water-ski, rollerblade or fly (if you have wings!), you choose the fun!
- Finally, make sure you take pictures at any part to show off your unique race and then post them on Facebook with #MakeADifference and tag our page by using @harborhousecrisisshelters. Or email the pictures to us at kathy.thompson@harborhousecs.org with how you’d like to be credited.
When the race is over, not only will you have supported Harbor House Crisis Shelters, but also have a fun time doing so. We’ll have prizes for the “Biggest Pledger,” the “Unique Racer/s,” and the “Biggest Group” among others. We do plan on having a team of HHCS staff that will be participating.
Thank you for supporting Harbor House Crisis Shelters and if you all enjoy it, we will have a 2nd next year!
