The search is on, to find the 1st lilac bloom in the Twin Ports area. Spring is here and local lilac trees are starting to bud. Lilac Lovefest is looking to locate the first bloom and anticipating it to happen this week. There is a prize for finding the 1st lilac bloom.

The Lilac Lovefest is a unique event that is set to prove that the Twin Ports has the longest lilac season in the world. The Twin Ports is made up of many microclimates. Microclimates along with Lake Superior’s fresh and very cold water, create a perfect and extended lilac growing season in the Twin Ports area May thru early July.

Plans are in place for multi-media excursions with virtual crafts, lilac recipes and lilac tree advice. For fun, there’s a kid’s coloring contest, lilac wood carving contest and a photo contest.
