The public is invited to celebrate the new public boat launch at Pokegama Bay in the Superior Municipal Forest with an outdoor ribbon cutting, snacks and free canoe rides on Wednesday, September 22, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The event will be hosted on site in the Superior Municipal Forest on Billings Park Drive, about one mile from the Highway 105 intersection.

The City of Superior and Superior Chamber of Commerce will host the ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. The Lake Superior Reserve will have refreshments available as well as canoes, lifejackets and paddles for guests to try the new launch until 5:30 p.m.

The new Superior facility includes restrooms, parking, native plant installation, dock and a boat and paddle craft launch. The site connects residents and visitors to the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail as well as hunting, fishing and boating opportunities.

Construction of the updated launch was accomplished through local, state and federal partnerships. The Pokegama Launch was designed using Federal funds from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program and constructed using Federal funds from the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, both part of the Office for Coastal Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the U.S. Department of Commerce. Thirty percent of the expenses were provided by the City of Superior. Funds were awarded to the University of Wisconsin- Madison Division of Extension.

More event information, including cancelation or changes due to weather, can be found on the Lake Superior Reserve Facebook page at facebook.com/lakesuperiorreserve.
