If you see a car on the ice near Barker’s Island in Superior, do not worry, it is the Superior Jaycee’s newest fundraiser – the “Superior Sinker.”
The unveil date occurs alongside the Lake Superior Ice Festival, the Superior Jaycees will be selling raffle tickets where anyone can guess the date the car will fall through the ice. The club hopes to raise money to for their club to help them better serve the Superior-Douglas County Community.
In preparation for the event, the Jaycees have worked with multiple agencies to avoid any adverse environmental impacts. The fundraiser is similar to that performed by the Lions Club in Menomonie and the Cass Lake Lions club. All proceeds go to help those in various types of need in our immediate community including, educational scholarships, camp tuition funding, monetary health needs, community outreach, and several other community aids.
The “Superior Sinker” is a completely clean stripped car – no engine, no transmission, no fluids, no glass – just a car frame we are putting on the ice and letting people guess when it will go through,” said Chris Nye of the Superior Jaycees.
The car was professionally cleaned and stripped thanks to donations from Moon’s Auto Body Superior, WI and will be professionally removed from the ice by Lake City Towing Superior WI minimizing any impacts to the lake and lakeshore upon removal.
The Jaycees plan to unveil the car on Thursday, January 24, 2019. They will begin selling raffle tickets starting on Friday, Jan 26th at $5 apiece, 3 for $10 OR 7 for $20 and will continue to sell raffle tickets until April 1st, 2019 or to the car goes through the ice whichever comes first. The top prize will be awarded to the person who chooses the correct date. If there are multiple guesses for the correct date, the winners will be picked by random draw. The prize winnings are as follows:
1st place - $1,000
2nd place - $250
3rd place - $100
4th-6th place - $50
Over $1500 in Cash Prizes!
