The University of Wisconsin-Superior Foundation’s seventh annual Superior Day of Giving, which took place May 4, raised more than $200,000 in support of UW-Superior and its students.

“The UW-Superior Foundation couldn’t be more grateful to the Yellowjacket community for its generosity during this 24-hour giving challenge,” said Jeanne Thompson, vice chancellor for University Advancement. “During our Day of Giving, 300 alumni, community members, faculty and staff and friends joined together to benefit student scholarships, academic programs and more.”

With the event falling on May 4, which each year prompts a flurry of “Star Wars”-themed messages on social media around the movie quote, “May the Force (4th) be with you,” the UW-Superior Foundation decided to get on board with the lighthearted “Star Wars” theme this year.

This year, the Day of Giving was even more special, with all contributions supporting the Together We Are Superior $20 million campaign.

Gifts during the Superior Day of Giving benefitted the Superior Fund, student scholarships, Yellowjacket Athletics, undergraduate research and many other academic departments and campus programs.

Although the special donation period has ended, the UW-Superior Foundation continues to see its impact.

“We are thrilled at the contributions still coming in to support our incredible students,” said Thompson. “Our Superior Fund supports the ongoing work of the Foundation throughout the whole year, and even if community members missed Superior Day of Giving, their contribution can still make an impact.”
