University of Wisconsin-Superior Theatre will present the Victorian thriller “Gaslight” in the Manion Theatre on the UW-Superior campus. Performances, directed by Cathy Fank, will take place November 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and November 17 and 24 at 2 p.m.
“It’s very interesting because this play was written in 1938 and that is a time when plays were overly written,” said Fank. “This play is different. It is very succinct and very clearly written. I found that amazing for a play written at that time.”
Written by Patrick Hamilton, “Gaslight” follows Jack Manningham and his search for hidden jewels all while hiding this quest from his wife, Bella, by attempting to convince her that she is going insane. Luckily, Rough, the police detective, gets involved and is able to convince Bella that things are not what they seem to be.
“I hope that the audience finds an engaging night of theatre watching three people try to unravel the mystery of what happened to this woman 15 years ago,” said Fank.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-UW-Superior students, $5 for students with a valid UW-Superior ID and $5 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased at the box office in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center at UW-Superior.
Reservations can be made at (715) 394-8380. For immediate assistance, please call the Department of Communicating Arts at (715) 394-8369. The Manion Theatre is located in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
