    UW-Superior to hold in-person commencement May 14
     
    SUPERIOR, Wis. – Nearly 700 students will be eligible to receive diplomas when the University of Wisconsin-Superior conducts its in-person commencement on Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at Siinto S. Wessman Arena. This will be the first time since 2019 that UW-Superior returns to its traditional in-person commencement since 2019 when it moved to an alternate format due to the pandemic.

    Chancellor Renée Wachter will preside over the ceremony and present diplomas to students who have earned associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students graduating Fall 2021, Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 are eligible to participate in the ceremony. UW-Superior will confirm its largest number of bachelor’s degrees in more than five years and its largest number of master’s degrees in over 20 years. Delivering the keynote address will be alumnus James M. Foote, president and chief executive officer of CSX.

    The student speaker will be Jessica Gidagaakoons Smith, a Bachelor of Science degree candidate. Smith is a legal studies major with a minor in First Nations studies.

    The Chancellor’s Leadership Award will be presented to Grant Garding, Jordyn O’Brien and Smith. This award is given to members of the graduating class who are committed to personal growth and who have made a positive contribution to their peers, campus and community.

    A live video feed will be available the day of the ceremony at uwsuper.edu/graduation.  Siinto S. Wessman Arena is located at 2701 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
