The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Center for Continuing Education will host the Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies throughout the Second Half of Life conference on Tuesday, March 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Erlenbach Lecture Hall.

Participants will learn why creative and active engagement is good for health and well-being and how dance, music and story can be incorporated into work and family life to enhance the second half of life. They will share current research and their experiences drawing on people’s strengths to help them engage with others.

According to Einstein College researchers, dance is among the top leisure activities that appear to play a part in delaying the onset of dementia. Keynote speaker Maria Genné, founder and director of the Twin Cities-based Kairos Alive! dance company, is a leader in the use of participatory performing arts to bring people together across generations, cultures and abilities.

“To be alive in one’s body and express through one’s own self can be incredibly joyful – even from a chair,” said Genné.

The closing session will feature many of the programs and services already available in the area to help individuals build and maintain the social connections that will help them live longer and better.
