The University of Wisconsin-Superior will hold a virtual celebration for Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, October 12. This event is free and open to the community.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. with an Indigenous Peoples Day Proclamation and followed at 4:30 p.m. by a History and Significance of Indigenous Peoples Day panel, which will include Superior mayor Jim Paine and Chantal Norrgard, UW-Superior assistant professor of First Nations Studies.
“We are excited to once again celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day on our campus, this time with the City of Superior as they share the city’s resolution to recognize this important day,” said Kat Werchouski, director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. “It is crucial that we continue to acknowledge the history of this region and our country while still honoring the indigenous people and cultures that are very much here – alive and strong in community and contribution.”
The event can be accessed online at www.uwsuper.zoom.us/j/95212329905.
This celebration is sponsored by UW-Superior’s Division of Student Affairs, First Nations Studies, Department of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the City of Superior.
