UW-Superior to present Sondheim musical comedy ‘Company’
** Please note - University of Wisconsin-Superior’s production of the musical comedy “Company,” originally scheduled to place March 27 - 29, and April 3 - 5, has been canceled.**
University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Theatre and Music Departments will collaborate to present the musical comedy “Company” in the Manion Theatre. Performances, directed by Jeff Madison, will take place at 7:30 p.m. March 27 and 28, and April 3 and 4, and at 2 p.m. March 29 and April 5.
“Sondheim is a true giant in American theater,” said Madison, UW-Superior senior lecture of voice. “In a list of his most popular pieces like ‘Sweeny Todd’ and ‘Into the Woods,’ I think ‘Company’ is my favorite. The characters are so wonderfully drawn and some of his best songs appear in this piece. We have a fantastic cast. The production is a legacy project as half the cast are students and the other half are alumni. This is our past and our present as we look toward the future.”
Based on the book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, “Company” tracks a single 35-year-old New York City man and his interactions with his group of married friends.
“The story follows Robert as he navigates the dating world while his married friends coach and question him on his relationship status,” said Madison. “From his perspective, he sees both the hilarious and humbling side of marriage.”
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-UW-Superior students, $5 for students with a valid UW-Superior ID and $5 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased at the box office in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center and at uwsuper.edu/company.
