The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Transportation and Logistics Research Center is hosting a free educational event to celebrate the 50thanniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing on Saturday, July 20, 1-3 p.m., in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room on the UW-Superior campus.

With many air and space-related activities taking place that day throughout the Northland, this event is designed for families with young children who are looking for a fun, free, educational option to add to their plans.

“The landing of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon’s surface on July 20, 1969, marked one of the most significant human achievements,” said Daniel Rust, UWS Transportation & Logistics Assistant Professor. “Fifty years ago the historic event prompted people of all ages to strive for the seemingly impossible. UWS is delighted to bring the community together with fun and educational activities inspiring the next generation to reach for the stars.”

The event for children Pre-K through 5th grade and their parents/guardians will feature a variety of space-themed educational and interactive exhibits, including:
    • UWS Observatory tours with up-close views of the sun, and the opportunity to take pictures through the telescope with a smart phone (Optional: Come back between 10 p.m. – midnight for a rare opportunity to view Jupiter, Saturn and the moon in the night sky.)
    • Take a ‘walk on the moon’ in an indoor bouncy house
    • Rockets, drones and robot demonstrations
    • Coloring contest with chance to win a $50 gift card to Planet 3 Extreme Air Park in Duluth courtesy of the UWS Alumni Association
    • Space-themed arts, crafts and activities
This event is sponsored by the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium with support from community partners, including the Superior Sunrise Rotary Club, Superior Fire and Police Departments, Superior Museums, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College’s Thunder Rocketry Club, YMCA, and Lake Superior Research Institute.

The Yellowjacket Union is located at 1605 Catlin Ave. in Superior. For additional information, please contact Cassandra Roemhildt at 715-394-8254.
