    • Share:
Fall is the perfect time to explore Douglas County. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and an abundance of outdoor opportunities are waiting to be found. Come play today on our trails, our endless waterways, and in our beautiful parks!

    4-Wheel Fun
Many of our ATV trails are open and ready for riding. We have over 100 miles of beautifully maintained ATV trails that snake through the woods and around the waters, giving you a fast-paced thrilling view of Douglas County.

Looking for a new trail to ride? Our most popular ones include the Wild Rivers Trail and the Tri-County Corridor. If you get hungry or tired while out for a ride, stop by one of the many adjacent restaurants and lodging properties with convenient trail access. Experiencing Douglas County by ATV is a must-do for any adventure junkie.

    Adventures on Foot
If lacing up hiking boots and hitting the trails sounds like heaven on Earth, Douglas County is the place for you. Whether you’re looking for a quick hike to start your morning or a longer all-day trek, you’re in for a treat.

We suggest checking out the falls in both Amnicon State Park and Pattison State Park, and crossing hiking the North Country Scenic Route off your bucket list. Before heading out, check our recreation reports page for updates on trail conditions. Like any hiking trip, come prepared. Wear proper clothing and shoes and pack water and snacks. (Bug spray wouldn’t be a bad idea, either!)

    Reel Fun Fishing
Douglas County is an angler’s dream. Whether you prefer sitting on a dock and tossing in a line, fishing the deep waters of Lake Superior, or fly fishing the bubbling rivers, you’ll find it here.

With more than 40 lakes and 150 miles of rivers and streams, the Douglas County forest is home to a wide variety of fish. Our most commonly caught fish are bluegills, crappies, perch, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, brook trout, and brown trout. Come toss your line in and stay awhile – we’ve got fishing to do!

    Camp Out
Nothing quite tops a weekend spent living among the wilderness. Waking to the sounds of bird singing and the smell of bacon over the fire, and falling asleep to a symphony of crickets and snores – it can’t be beat.

Camping is fun the entire family can enjoy. Learn about nature the best way there is – by being in it! Whether you want a comfy RV experience, or you’d rather rough it out in a tent, Douglas County has the campground for you. So come make new memories, burn a few marshmallows, and gaze at the stars – we promise you won’t want to leave!
