Interested in becoming a beekeeper? The Beekeeping 101 Workshop is a FREE, three-hour workshop, open to the general public, on how to become a Beekeeper. Taught by Dr. Edward Burkett, this workshop, designed specifically for those with no experience in beekeeping, will provide you with the general knowledge that all beginning beekeepers need to succeed. Topics covered will include “Do I really want to raise Honey Bees?”, Honey Bee biology, basic equipment, tools, protective gear, cost, purchasing bees and equipment, legal issues, urban beekeeping, installing your first bees, basic hive inspection, colony maintenance, and challenges to bee health. In this workshop, you will get to handle and learn to use beekeeping equipment and you will actually assemble a beehive from the bottom up. This workshop is a MUST for anyone considering beekeeping. The Beekeeping 101 Workshop has seating for 60 adult participants. Registration is required and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Refreshments will be provided.
