KBJR 6 Sports Anchor leaving TV

    Monday, March 26th, 2018

    TWIN PORTS—
KBJR 6, Your Weather Authority today announced the departure of local sports anchor Zach Schneider.  Zach will be a financial advisor in the Duluth office of Liberty Wealth Management. Schneider started at KBJR 6 in 2007 as an intern and news reporter and eventually moved to sports anchor.  He began doing play-by-play of UMD hockey in 2017.  Schneider said, "To do what I've done and where I've done it, I can't consider myself anything other than incredibly blessed.  My passion for sports was born right here in the Northland, so the chance to continue that into my professional life has been a dream come true.  The stories we've told and the people I've met these last 10 years have truly enriched my life, and my only hope is our viewers got as much or more out of it than I did."

KBJR 6 News Director, Kevin Jacobsen said, “We are proud of Zach’s work with KBJR 6 over the last decade and appreciate his dedication to covering sports.  Zach is a hometown guy with a burning passion for sports journalism.  That is something he gets to take with him, leaving some big shoes to fill."

Zach will continue to be the play-by-play announcer on My9 Sports for UMD hockey games.  Zach said, "As I step into life's new challenge as a financial advisor with Liberty Wealth Management, I couldn't be more excited to keep my role as the play-by-play voice of the UMD men's hockey team.  I've been a lifelong fan of the Bulldogs, and the My 9 Sports project has been one of the most difficult yet rewarding things in my career.  I can think of no better way to keep connected both to our viewers and my television roots."

UMD Athletic Director, Josh Berlo added, "It has been a pleasure partnering with Zach over these last five years, as we've collaborated to grow and enhance My9 Sports.  His efforts and commitment are appreciated by our coach, staff, student-athletes, campus and fans.  We look forward to continuing to work with Zach."

Zach grew up in Duluth, attending Marshall School and the college of Saint Scholastica where he was a goalie for the men's soccer team.  With his passion for sports starting right here in the Twin Ports, he's looking forward to keeping up to date on all the local teams, athletes and of course, the fans.
