Senior Connections Seeking Community Members to Serve on Board of Directors

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Senior Connections, Inc. is seeking community-minded individuals interested in serving on its Board of Directors and helping guide the organization’s future.

Senior Connections is Douglas County’s designated Aging Unit and has served older adults for more than 40 years. The organization provides essential programs, services, resources, and advocacy that help older adults remain active, informed, independent, and connected to their community. Its services include senior nutrition programs, Meals on Wheels, specialized transportation, health promotion, caregiver support, and other resources for older adults throughout Douglas County.

“We are working to expand our Board with people who bring different perspectives, lived experiences, community relationships, and professional backgrounds,” said Brian Trettel, Executive Director of Senior Connections. “We want a Board that reflects the community we serve and includes people who are ready to contribute their time, talents, connections, and ideas to strengthen services for older adults.”

Senior Connections is particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in areas such as finance and accounting, fundraising, nonprofit governance, aging services, health care, law and compliance, human resources, communications, transportation, strategic planning, community outreach, and volunteer development. Professional credentials or previous Board experience are not required. Lived experience, community knowledge, reliability, and a commitment to the organization’s mission are also highly valued.

Board membership is an active volunteer leadership role. Members are expected to attend and prepare for meetings, serve on at least one committee, participate in fundraising and community engagement, advocate for older adults, and help develop partnerships and resources that support the long-term sustainability of Senior Connections. The Senior Connections Board governs collectively by setting policy and strategic direction, overseeing the organization’s financial and organizational health, supporting and evaluating the Executive Director, and advancing the mission in the community. The Executive Director is responsible for employees, programs, and daily operations. Under the organization’s bylaws, Board members must reside or be employed in Douglas County and cannot be employed by Senior Connections. The Board must be at least containing 51 percent of individuals that are age 60 or older.
Anyone interested in Board service is encouraged to request and complete a Senior Connections Board Member Application. Applications will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee, which will recommend qualified candidates to the full Board. Trettel is also available to speak with reporters or community members who would like to learn more about Senior Connections, the Board recruitment effort, or the organization’s vision for the future.
