Superior Native Russ King Brings Drooling Pianos Holiday Show to DECC Symphony Hall

Fast-growing comedy and music show heads to the Symphony Hall stage December 17

DULUTH, Minn. — October 8, 2026 — Superior native and professional pianist Russ King and stand-up comedian Chris Covert are bringing Drooling Pianos, their adults-only comedy and music show, to DECC Symphony Hall for a special holiday performance Thursday, December 17 at 7 p.m.
Drooling Pianos combines live music, stand-up comedy, original and parody songs, improvisation and audience interaction into an unpredictable show built around the very different backgrounds of its two performers.

King is an accomplished pianist, songwriter and producer with a career spanning live performance, recording and touring. Covert comes from the world of stand-up comedy and has performed alongside nationally known comedians including Jeff Ross.

Put the two together, and things got hilariously inappropriate pretty quickly.

King and Covert only met in February 2026, but what began as an experiment combining live music and stand-up comedy quickly gained an audience. Drooling Pianos has already sold-out multiple performances, including its debut, and received an enthusiastic response during its Twin Ports appearance at Clyde Iron Works this summer.

Now, just months after its creation, the show is moving onto the stage at DECC Symphony Hall.

“What started as a crazy idea has turned into sold-out shows, some incredible opportunities, and something that has grown way faster than either of us expected,” King said. “Getting to bring it to Symphony Hall in the community where I grew up makes this one especially meaningful.”
Drooling Pianos is also growing beyond the live stage. King and Covert recently completed a music video for their original comedy song “Smell Something,” starring Clerks actor Brian O’Halloran and King’s wife, Mindy LeBeau King, as the female lead, with a cameo appearance by filmmaker Kevin Smith.

The December 17 performance will also have a community component. Drooling Pianos is partnering with Second Harvest Northland for a food drive in conjunction with the show, with additional details to be announced ahead of the event.

For King, the Symphony Hall performance is also something of a homecoming. He grew up in Superior and attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He later earned a master’s degree in keyboard performance from McNally Smith College of Music and studied jazz piano under Ryan Frane at UMD. King is a U.S. Army veteran and has also led several entertainment tours to the Middle East as a civilian. Throughout his career, he has performed with Grammy-winning and nationally recognized artists across a wide range of genres.

Tickets for Drooling Pianos at DECC Symphony Hall go on sale Thursday, October 8 at 10 a.m.
