Although classified as temporary, this position is expected to last for an extended period of time. This position will work 10 hours per week: Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 6:30 am to 11:30 a.m. Availability for additional hours as needed is a plus.Purpose & Overview
Serve as reception at landfill and clerical support to the landfill staff; to relieve management staff of clerical tasks; to perform difficult responsible clerical support tasks; and to do other work as required.
Employment Standards:
General Responsibilities
- Answer and screen telephone calls and greet the general public. Assist the public by referring them to appropriate personnel or locations and various other sources, giving out standard forms and explaining how to complete them, and answering requests for routine information.
- Sort and file bills, receipts, incoming mail and a variety of documents; collect and distribute outgoing mail.
- Use a word processing system to prepare routine orders, receipts, invoices, permits, bills, licenses, and correspondence. Enter data into computer systems.
- Receive fees or monies where the amounts are readily obtained by fixed scheduled or simple computations.
- Maintain simple operational records by transferring data, calculating totals and sub-totals, or compiling summaries.
- Verify information on forms and purchase orders, and input documents with information on supporting documents.
- Operate standard office equipment, such as computer, photocopy machine, adding machine.
- May provide vacation or other temporary relief for other clerical positions.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge
- Some knowledge of word processing systems and formats for business correspondence and reports.
- Some knowledge of office procedures and filing.
Skills & Abilities
- Perform general clerical work and learn office operations and procedures.
- Spell correctly and use correct grammar and punctuation.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public and others contacted in the course of work.
- Make simple arithmetic computations.
- Understand the function of and learn to operate standard office equipment.
- Write neatly and legible.
Requirements/Special Requirements:
Driver's License Requirement - Must possess valid driver's license or be able to provide a suitable form of transportation as approved by the supervisor.
