Citizens throughout the City of Superior learned to adapt to a variety of changing circumstances  over the last year. We adapted our daily lives, our business models, and our means to stay  connected to friends and family. This pandemic reinstated our community’s need for an affordable,  accessible high-speed broadband network. As Mayor of the City of Superior, I, along with  Councilor Tylor Elm, made it a key priority of the City to build and establish local control of  essential broadband network infrastructure. To ensure the City of Superior is understanding the  current network infrastructure and the changes required to support this new open-access fiber-optic network, we need input from our citizens.

The goals of the City for this project include the following:

    1. Lower the cost of internet access by 30% for residents and businesses. 2. Significantly increase the speed and reliability of internet access.

    3. Increase competition and give residents multiple options for ISPs on demand in real time. 4. Build a state-of-the-art network that will improve economic development and foster  innovation.

    5. Leverage the network to improve the services provided in the city including public safety,  transportation, healthcare, education, emergency communications, and new services that  will become possible with advanced network infrastructure.

Reliable internet connectivity is essential in the 21st century. Residents in our city pay too much  for mediocre access to the internet. Connect Superior seeks to maximize value and lower costs  through competition. This public infrastructure allows any service provider to offer services in the  city. The City adopted this open model to achieve its goals because the network now touches  nearly every part of life in our community.

To achieve our goal of offering this type of network in our community we want to hear from the  citizens of Superior. Join the listening session to hear more about the project from EntryPoint  Networks and give your feedback. Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to attend the  listening session as well.

We are inviting the public to participate in the second listening session for  Connect Superior on Monday, May 3rd at 7:00pm.
