Anthony ‘Scott’ McNorton named Student Speaker for UW-Superior commencement
Anthony “Scott” McNorton will serve as Student Speaker for the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s commencement. The event will take place on Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Siinto S. Wessman Arena on the UW-Superior campus.
McNorton is a Bachelor of Science degree candidate with Cum Laude honors. He is a physical education major with minors in health and coaching and a certification in adaptive physical education.
A non-traditional student who came to UW-Superior from Waynesboro, Va., McNorton has been an active member on campus. He has served as a resident assistant and a campus ambassador, as well as the executive director of campus ambassadors. A first-generation student, he also played a vital role in welcoming new students to UW-Superior as a Weekend of Welcome team leader and First Year Experience peer mentor and then as lead student. His school spirit even extended to becoming a member of the Mascot Team.
Academically, McNorton was vice president of the Future Teacher Association. As an individual with vast knowledge of the campus community, he was also a member of the UW-Superior Strategic Planning Committee, the Non-Academic Conduct Committee and the Marcovich Wellness Center Leadership Committee. Away from campus McNorton has been active as a Superior High School assistant football coach and a Special Olympics swimming coach.
After receiving his degree, McNorton hopes to secure a teaching position in the Superior area. He is looking forward to becoming an active member of the UW-Superior Alumni Association and helping represent the UW-Superior family.
