TSA to Implement New Screening Procedures and Pre✓ at DLH
DULUTH, MN—Beginning Monday, November 13, 2017, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin implementing new, stronger screening procedures for carry-on items at airports nationwide, including Duluth International Airport (DLH), in an effort to raise the baseline of airport security. The procedures require travelers to place all electronics larger than a mobile phone in bins for x-ray screening at checkpoints. TSA Officers will assist passengers with the divesting requirements. There are no changes to what travelers can bring through the checkpoint; food and liquid items that comply with the 3-1-1 liquids rule, electronics, and books continue to be allowed in carry-on bags. It is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport at least an hour and a half before flight departure.
It is critical for TSA to constantly enhance and adjust security screening procedures to stay ahead of evolving threats and keep passengers safe. By separating personal electronic items such as laptops, tablets, e-readers and handheld game consoles for screening, TSA officers can more closely focus on resolving alarms and stopping terror threats.
We are happy to announce that also beginning Monday, November 13, 2017, DLH will operate as a fully designated TSA Pre✓ airport. If you are a current TSA Pre✓ passenger, you will now be able to access the Pre✓ process at DLH. If you have been on the fence about enrolling in the Pre✓ program, now is the time to get on the program.
The new, stronger security measures do not apply to passengers enrolled in TSA Pre✓. Travelers enrolled in TSA Pre✓ do not need to remove shoes, 3-1-1liquids, laptops, electronics, light outerwear, or belts.
“TSA Pre✓ provides enhanced security while also improving the passenger screening experience,” said Natalie Peterson, Director of Communications and Marketing. “We are pleased to offer this program to passengers at DLH.”
To be eligible for this expedited screening program, individuals need to apply. The TSA Pre✓ application program requires a background check, fingerprints and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.
Travelers are able to go through a five-minute pre-enrollment process online and complete their seven-minute background interview at an application center. Once approved, travelers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) and will have the opportunity to utilize TSA Pre✓ lanes at security checkpoints.

How to apply:
1. Make an appointment online and pre-apply here at ttps://universalenroll.dhs.gov/programs/precheck. It typically takes less than 10 minutes to pre-apply.
2. To make an appointment, applicants should type in the location and click on the search button to select the most convenient enrollment site. Applicants can select an appointment time using the drop-down menu to choose a date and time. The drop-down menu will show the first open time available, but individuals can choose a different date and/or time using the drop-down menu.
3. Visit the enrollment center at the appointment time or as a walk-in at the application center nearest you.
