UW-Superior, Fairlawn Mansion partner for tea party event for children
The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Center for Continuing Education and the Fairlawn Mansion and Museum will be hosting an event allowing children to travel back in time and experience the beautiful Victorian era.
The Fairlawn Tea Party will get underway Saturday, April 22, at 9:30 a.m. allowing children grades 3 through 5 the experience of a morning full of fun and education.
“We saw a lot of learning taking place, along with a lot of smiles at last year’s Fairlawn Tea Party and we are looking forward to that again,” said Sarah Blanck, Executive Director of Superior Public Museums. “The event gives us the opportunity to connect one of our historic museums, our collections, and volunteers with students on a more personal level creating a perfect mixture of learning and fun.”
The Fairlawn Mansion was built in 1890 as the family residence of lumber and mining baron Martin Pattison and his wife Grace. The morning will involve Victorian dress-up, parlor games, crafts, tea, and etiquette. The children participating will also take part in the exploration of the mansion, learning about its rich history, as well as experience a full tea party (pink lemonade) accompanied by delicious cookies.
Open to all students grades 3 through 5. The cost is $20 per child. Limited spaces are available. To register or for more information, call (715) 394-8173 or visit uwsuper.edu/cee/youthprogramming/fairlawn-tea-party.cfm.
