UW-Superior Foundation receives $100,000 gift
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Foundation has received a $100,000 gift from the Minnesota Power Foundation in honor of alumnus Steve DeVinck. The gift will be used to support UW-Superior priorities and strategic initiatives.
“We are genuinely appreciative to accept this generous gift from Minnesota Power Foundation and ALLETE in honor of Steve DeVinck,” said UW-Superior Chancellor Renée Wachter. “What a wonderful testament to Steve’s leadership, loyalty and commitment to ALLETE, the university, the UW-Superior Foundation and our region.”
The announcement was made May 8 at the Holiday Inn in Duluth during ALLETE’s Career Celebration honoring DeVinck, retiring Senior Vice President and CFO. DeVinck graduated from UW-Superior in 1981 with a degree in accounting. He served in leadership positions with the UW-Superior Foundation Board from 2006-2016, including the position of Foundation Board President.
“I’m honored and humbled by this contribution and recognition,” DeVinck said. “Like many family members and friends, I am a graduate of UW-Superior and understand the tremendous asset it is to the Twin Ports and surrounding region. I hope this gift helps sustain the university and the opportunities it cultivates for future generations of Yellowjackets.”
In recognition of this generous gift, the Yellowjacket Union North Atrium will be renamed the Steve DeVinck North Atrium.
“The Steve DeVinck North Atrium will inspire our students, for generations to come, to live life with integrity and devotion,” said Wachter.
The gift in DeVinck’s honor allows ALLETE to recognize an individual with a passion for learning.
“Steve is a devoted alumnus of UW-Superior – almost to the point of having UW-Superior yellow and black coursing through his veins – and has been a driver of ALLETE’s culture of community engagement,” said Al Hodnik, Chairman, President and CEO of ALLETE. “He is a man of deep integrity who understands the value of education to all organizations. At ALLETE, Steve has been an outstanding teacher who championed the development of ALLETE University, our classroom-based platform for employees to learn about the company from its leaders. He also has been an important link between ALLETE internship programs and students at UW-Superior and elsewhere. This Minnesota Power Foundation gift to UW-Superior is a fitting tribute on many levels, and it is heartwarming to know Steve’s efforts on behalf of the UW-Superior mission will be remembered through support for students for years to come.”
