Name: Tower Ave Reconstruction Public Information Meeting
    Date: June 19, 2012
    Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDT
    Event Description:
Public meeting for Tower Avenue in the city of Superior Meeting to focus on proposed change in signal locations from Broadway to Winter Street on both Hammond Avenue and Tower Avenue The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Region, in partnership with the City of Superior, is announcing a public information meeting on the proposed change in traffic signal locations from Broadway to Winter Street on both Hammond Avenue and Tower Avenue. Also, the City of Superior is proposing a re-introduction of an historic arch. The meeting is scheduled from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Douglas County – City of Superior Government Center, Room 270, Douglas Finn Conference Room, 1316 N. 14th Street, Superior, WI. Traffic signals would be relocated from Broadway to Winter Street on both Hammond Avenue and Tower Avenue for rail/traffic signal interconnect/pre-emption. Rail/traffic signal interconnect/pre-emption measures would allow vehicle traffic to be cleared prior to a train approaching a crossing. The rail/traffic signal measures would be included in two proposed improvement projects; Tower Avenue, and Hammond Avenue, which are both planned for construction in 2013. The City of Superior has taken the initial steps to reintroduce an arch similar to the historic arch that previously existed from 1900 through 1921, at the intersection of Tower Avenue and Broadway Street in Superior, Wisconsin. Historical data has been collected, architectural renderings have been created, and estimated costs determined. This improvement will have a lasting visual impact on the Tower Avenue and Broadway Street corridors. The conceptual information that has been developed for this improvement will be available and the City is requesting public comment. WisDOT and City of Superior representatives will provide an informal presentation followed by discussion about the proposed concepts and displays. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide written comments and ask questions concerning these projects. If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, contact Project Manager Stephanie King at (715) 392-7874. Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Stephanie King, WisDOT, 1701 North 4th Street, Superior, WI 54880.
