Humane Society of Douglas County Offers “Cat Yoga” Kitty Cats & Yoga Mats

    SUPERIOR, Wisconsin – November 30, 2017 – Starting Wednesday, January 10, 2018, the Humane
Society of Douglas County (HSDC) will be offering cat yoga to the public.  “While popular on the coasts, we believe we are the first to offer feline yoga in the Superior area,” says Executive Director, Sheila Keup.  “This is a great chance for people to come see our new facility and possibly meet a new four-legged friend.”

The 75-minute class will be led by certified yoga instructor, Holly Bounting in a traditional Hatha style yoga, perfect for all levels.  Holly says that cats are very intuitive and heart-centered creatures and love interacting with humans.

It’s known that spending time with animals has a positive effect on physical and mental health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) have both conducted heart-related studies on people who have pets.  The findings showed that pet owner’s exhibit decreased blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

The purpose of HSDC is the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals, and the extension of humane education.  It is the policy of HSDC to provide humane care and treatment for all animals needing protection in the area served by HSDC.  HSDC also attempts to return lost animals to their owners, seek suitable homes for animals without owners, and offer humane euthanasia when necessary.

The class will take place at HSDC, 138 Moccasin Mike Road, Superior, WI 54880 beginning Wednesday, January 10, 6:00 p.m. and take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.  The cost is $15 - $5 of which is donated to HSDC.  Class size is limited.
