The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department presents its Symphonic Band concert “The Best of New and Old: Great works of the past and a new look beyond” on Thursday, April 27, at7:30 p.m. in the Thorpe Langley Auditorium located in Old Main.

“The evening will include pieces that include Celtic music, jazz music and innovative approaches to band music with the influence of Hollywood film scores,” said Pamela Bowen Bustos, Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education at UW-Superior. “The inspiration for the musical selections came from a desire to honor a variety of approaches to composing for Wind Band.”

The Chamber Wind Ensemble will be presenting the world premiere of a work entitled “Celtic Visions,” by Noah Taylor, which was commissioned by the UW-Superior National Association for Music Education Collegiate Chapter 37.

The Symphonic Band will be performing pieces that celebrate music of the past and present such as “An Outdoor Overture,” by Aaron Copland, “Band Dancing,” by Jack Stamp, “Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night,” by Elliot Del Borgo and “Beyond,” by Japanese composer Wataru Hokoyama.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and free for students with a valid UW-Superior ID. The Thorpe Langley Auditorium of Old Main is located at 1710 Weeks Ave. For more information contact: Pamela Bowen Bustos (715) 394-8115 or by email at pbustos@uwsuper.edu.
