Humane Society of Douglas County, Inc. ?Ride for the Rescue? Fundraising Event Helping to establish a large/farm animal fund

SUPERIOR, Wisconsin ? Join us on our 3rd annual ?Ride for the Rescue? trail ride on Sunday, October 7, at the Bird Sanctuary in Gordon. All proceeds from the ride go directly to establishing a large/farm animal fund. According to Sheila Keup, Executive Director of HSDC, ?When the need arises, we rescue large and farm animals too, not just dogs and cats. These cases can be very expensive, so that?s why we have the need to establish this fund. We?ll be prepared when the call comes for sickly and or mistreated animals.?

The ride will take place (it?s bring your own horse) in the beautiful Douglas County Wildlife Area, more commonly known as the ''Bird Sanctuary.'' It?s over 4,000 acres in size and is actively managed as a brush prairie habitat encompassing both County and Department of Natural Resources-owned lands. The focal points of this area, aside from the miles of open fields scattered with wildflowers and wildlife perfect for nature viewing, are the stables, corrals, and clubhouse. There are 14 miles of designated horseback riding trails and stable facility.

Event fees are $35 until September 7, then $45; fee waived if $100 or more is collected in pledges. A barbeque lunch of chicken and ribs and t-shirt are included. The ride also includes a really fun scavenger hike. Pledge prizes and scavenger hunt prizes will be awarded. Registration is required by September 24. Pledge forms and more information are available on our website at hsdcpets.com.

Thank you to our generous sponsors: Dan?s Feed Bin, FOX21, Kwik Trip and Whispering Pines Veterinary Care.
